Judge Stephen Rideout (Retired)
Ally member from Virginia

Judge Rideout has a long and distinguished history as a leader in the juvenile and family court arena.  He has been a tireless advocate throughout his career for children and their families.  Judge Rideout learned about FCAA in 2007 through his colleague, Bill Stanton, then FCAA’s Board Chairman.  From the time he first connected with our organization, Judge Rideout became a strong advocate, a generous donor, and a supporter of our mission.

As a member of FCAA, Judge Rideout has used every opportunity to advocate for the voices of foster youth to be heard in court.  Through his efforts, FCAA has become a frequent trainer and resource for juvenile and family court personnel across the country.  Judge Rideout has connected FCAA to opportunities to train judicial officers in Tennessee, and judges, attorneys, social service workers, and CASA representatives in Virginia and Michigan.  Judge Rideout also shares information about FCAA wherever he goes and recommends our organization as a resource for youth in transition in those communities.

When asked about what makes him such a strong supporter of FCAA, Judge Rideout stated, “When I learned about what FCAA does, I saw it as a program that fills a gap for youth aging out of the system.  I saw it as a great opportunity for advocacy by former foster children, now adults of all ages, who could support those who are aging out of the system, as well as those who have been adopted or reunified.  FCAA also offers a great opportunity for advocacy before Congress and state legislatures, the executive branch, officers, social services directors, school professionals, and state court systems, and a way to personalize those systems.
