Child abuse in the U.S. is reported every 10 seconds. The effects can last a lifetime. In the U.S., about 400,000 children live in foster care, entering care due to abuse and neglect or after losing their parents through death or incarceration. Without the right support, the effects of child abuse and trauma can last a lifetime.
As the leading national organization for an estimated 12 million foster care alumni, Foster Care Alumni of America is urging our community members to get involved in helping build safer and stronger communities by supporting foster youth and alumni. We envision all people in and from foster care connected, empowered and flourishing.
Foster Care Alumni of America brings that vision to life by promoting healing and growth through peer support and empowerment. Alumni are encouraged to advocate for equal opportunities for people in and from foster care. Through advocacy efforts, we educate policy-makers on the challenges facing people in and from foster care and offer recommendations to help foster youth and alumni succeed.
Community members are invited to join our FosterWalk events to learn more. Funds raised from the FosterWalk events helps support personal and professional growth for foster care alumni, empowering them through peer support, leadership development and advocacy efforts.
